Darren Sproles is the smallest player in the NFL. At 5 feet 6 inches and 180 lbs he is considered to be one of the smallest players of all time. At this height Darren goes up against some players who are a foot taller than him and almost double his weight. Albert Haynesworth is one of the biggest players in the NFL at 6 feet 6 inches and 350 lbs, he could obviously do some damage to little Darren Sproles. Even though at his height Darren not only loves to play football but he excels at it. He is considered to be one of the most exciting and dangerous players in the league. At this height Darren can’t help but be a huge inspiration to little kids all over the country because if he can make it to the NFL at that height then little kids think they can do anything.
Darren attended Kansas state were he was a running back and not a bad one either. He was drafted in the 4th round by the San Diego Chargers with the 130th pick. He is now a 5 year veteran and is pretty well-known but it hasn’t been until recent years were this little guy has shown his true skills. In the 2009 playoffs, San Diego’s star running back Tomlinson was injured for the playoffs and with their star out, the Chargers weren’t looking to good but little Darren came in against one of the better teams in the NFL, Indianapolis Colts, and he ended up with 105 yards rushing, 45 yards receiving and 178 return yards, Sproles finished the game with 328 all-purpose yards in the Chargers victory over the Colts. It was a huge upset and Darren was the one to be thanked for it. The Chargers later ended up losing their next game against the super bowl champ Pittsburg Steelers but little Darren had left a big mark on the NFL with his performance.
I interviewed a long time San Diego fan and he thinks that even at his height, Darren can be a starter and franchise running back but starting at San Diego is highly unlikely. “If Darren was traded to another team and there was a very good supporting cast their then he could be a really big threat and could become a starter but if not then he will probably just fade off.” Places that would be a good fit for him are New England because of their explosive style offense and another team would be Arizona because of their air-it-out offense, they could use a good ground game and with an explosive back like Darren and a hard, tough, and power back in Bennie Wells, they could have a very balanced a young backfield.
I play football and I’m usually one of the smaller players on the field and watching Darren do what he does in the NFL at such a height is a huge inspiration to me. If a little guy can have no fear and run hard every play knowing that every player over powers him is amazing and that he shows the most heart and courage. I think that he can be a starting running back because of his ability to be an explosive back. He also can get outside the backfield and receive the ball just as good as he can run it off of a handoff. Sproles could also stay a kick and punt returner because of his speed and quickness and ability to be such a game changer. This is why Darren Sproles is such an inspiration and why he has so much potential.
